The Department of English (UG & PG) at Bidhan ChandraCollege, Asansol, received its approval in the year of the inception of thisinstitution. It received approval for three-year Honours Course under TheUniversity of Burdwan in 1999. With the foundation of the Kazi NazrulUniversity, Asansol, in 2013, this department was approved to run M.A. inEnglish Course under the newly established university. Presently the departmentruns both the undergraduate and postgraduate courses under Kazi NazrulUniversity.   As one of the bestperforming departments of the university, this department has always maintainedregularity and quality in the teaching-learning process. This is best reflectedby the performance of the students over the years. This department has produceda number of NET and SET crackers; a good number of former students of thedepartment are currently faculty members of different academic institutions, andsome of the former students are engaged in doctoral research in national andstate-level institutions. The students have also performed well in othercompetitive examinations.
