Department of Botany came into existence in 2008. The department was started with theProgramme course under The University of Burdwan. Currently theDepartment is continuing the Programme course in the Credit Base Choice System(CBCS) under Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol. At present two teachers fromdifferent fields of expertise is serving in this Department. Now the Botany Departmentconsists of a lecture-hall and a laboratory with basic facilities for practicalclasses including simple and compound microscopes. Along with conventionalteaching methods, teachers of this Department also frequently arrange forvarious modern tools and techniques ( likes ICT enabled classrooms) for thebetterment of teaching and learning process for the students. Various localexcursions are arranged in different seasons of the year by the Department forproviding knowledge to the students regarding the diversity of local flora andalso for growing interest in the field of plant science. In addition, a smallHerbarium consisting of preserved local plant samples is also maintained by theDepartment. Currently, the Department is maintaining a Medicinal garden withinthe college campus having more than a hundred plant species with crucialethnomedicinal value. Students of the Department are always encouraged forvarious activities including scientific article writing, wall magazine and totake part in tree plantation Programme arranged by the College every year onWorld Environment Day.
